Ok, I know all I talk about is video games, but oh I love them. Anyway, there's this cool "casual" game called Plants vs Zombies for PC, it costs like 10 bucks, you can get it on steam (that's where I got it).
It's about plants...and zombies, haha. Ok, zombies are trying to get to your (or someone's) house, and you have a big frontyard where they have to pass through, but to keep them from getting near the house, you have to plant some...plants to keep them away, yeah, doesn't make sense. There are lots of types of plants, basic ones are a shooting plant, a plant that serves as a barrier for zombies to eat and stall them while the other plants shoot them, a Sun generating plant (you need sun to keep planting more and more), and so forth. That's the whole point of the game, try and keep the zombies away, but it's pretty cool, cause you have to plant strategically so that they do what you want them to do. Well, you should try and play it, you can download a free demo on steam (steam is a software, in case you didn't know, so you'd have to download steam first). I think this kind of games are enjoyable by almost everybody and good if you have some 10-15 minutes in between things you have to do. So yeah... short one :)

I remember when...
Ok, remember when the Internet was just invented... how your parents used to tell you how they managed to live without chat rooms or emails or all kinds of stuff you had because of the internet...ok, maybe that didn't happen to everybody, but it did happen, probably similar to how your grandparents told your parents how they lived without a TV in every room, or without a TV at all. And I can't keep but wonder, what could we possibly be telling our 10, 15 year old children??? Well, I know what...
"I remember when we didn't even have Google", right??? I mean, they way things are going, Google will be the unquestionable ruler of the world (planet Google, if you will). We will tell our kids how we had to remember like 10 different usernames and passwords and not having anything linked to a same username, how we had to use hotmail or yahoo, with all those annoying messages at the end of every email sent and those 20 megabytes of storage, how we needed to use a standalone software to chat with someone, how we had to download videos in the ugliest formats before viewing them, but most importantly, how the internet was before cloud computing. I mean, you have a Google account, you have access to stuff you didn't even know existed, and everything is in the internet, you don't need to download software, you don't need to specify your settings every time you login in a different computer, you just open your Chrome browser (Google, haha), go to "whatever.google.com" and that's it.
But there's a key difference between us and our parents...they told us that because they didn't have the slightest idea what all this new stuff was and preferred to do it their way, but we DO know what all this new stuff is, and we like it. So more like telling our kids that in a spiteful way because we don't know what they're doing, we will tell them as a story to amuse them, to make them go "Really???" or "How did you manage to do xxx???"
Damn, I'm feeling old just thinking about it...but that's what happens when you have a shitload of time, you think about useless unimportant stuff, haha.

School is almost over for me...
...And that of course means, crazy busy. I am taking 5 classes, and as in every semester, last two weeks is when I have homework on all of those classes. In Data Bases, I have to build an application in C# that connects to MySql, that isn't too hard, but it takes a fair amount of time. In Data Structures, I have to make a program that utilizes at least 10 sorting algorithms, again, that is not hard, but time consuming. In Digital Circuits I have to make a fully functional digital "clock", hours, minutes and seconds, that is not only time consuming as hell, it is expensive buying all the necessary material, and with all the homework I'm doing, I'm not getting a lot of work hours, so, not a lot of money. In Programming IV...well, that's the easiest class I'm taking, I had to make a program that saves scores of any kind of game (lucky for me, my last project for Programming III last semester was a game, so, yeah, I'm going to recycle it, haha), and transfer them to Excel and make a graph showing the best 10 scores, but that was easy as hell, already done, also in C#. And in Indusrial Psychology...well, I only have to study all these crazy technical names so I might do well in my final, but that is by far my least favorite thing to do ever.
On the positive side, two weeks from now, I'm going to be a free relaxed man, at least for the remainder of the year, will have plenty of time for my "job", which I gotta say, I'm really enjoying. I'm learning loads of things, not only Ruby, but learning to optmize problems faster and better by using logic...oh, logic, how I like you. Plus, when people at school ask me what I do, I can tell them I'm a programmer and I can see in their eyes, they feel a little jealous, but also happy for me, and they realize pursuing a programming career is not out of their hands.
Another activity I've been doing lately is watching movies...Ok, I've always done that, but for people who know me, it is no secret that I don't really like to watch movies at home, I do go to the movie theater every sunday, no exception, been doing that for about 2 years now, but when it comes to watching movies at home...I don't know, I am never in the mood, don't really have a reason for it. But recently I bought a Blu-Ray drive for my computer, had to make good use of my 1080p TV, and have been watching all the movies Diego and Ricky have bought over the last year in my computer, and I'm really enjoying it, I think it's going to become one of my favorite things to do when I'm home, and because of that, I'm starting to buy movies myself, just ordered Up! and Hot Fuzz.

Heaven is full of computers
Ok, I don't believe in heaven, but if there was one, it would be full of computers...
So Diego asked me to help him with his "job", the one he had before his actual job, haha. He's doing this web application to manage loans and stuff to a local company, and he has been doing it for about a year, and I gotta tell you, he's got some talent, I mean, the language he's using (Ruby on Rails), he learned how to use it pretty much by himself, and he's managed to do some pretty nice stuff. I've always wanted to be part of it, but never really have had anytime to learn that language (or maybe I just haven't really wanted to, haha, stupid videogames), but yeah, yesterday he asked me to help him to test it out and help him with little blocks of code, to clean it up a little, not a lot of creative stuff, but when he started teaching me the basics, we started coming up with ideas and modifications and things to implement, and without knowing we spent like 5 straight hours (not bathroom breaks, no food, no nothing), tweaking the code and we did pretty good, so he asked me to help him on a regular basis, btw, those hours will be paid, so yeah :D.
I knew this since like, 5 years, but yeah, it is now reaffirmed, I do not want to do anything that doesn't relate to programming, I enjoy it so fucking much, plus I'm getting paid for it, there's just nothing better, well, it would be better if that job was a videogame, but hey, step by step. You hear so often people say or write "my job is so fucking boring" or "I'm sick of work", etc, it starts to get into your brain little by little, and more so if your current job really is boring (like mine is). But man, if my job is as fun as this, hell, I would do it without getting paid...well, not really, I do need to eat and buy stuff, but yeah, if there was a heaven, it would be full of computers...

Pool party...and a baby
So yeah, last friday Fani organized a Pool "party" for her birthday, and we had nothing to do (Diego & me), so we decided to go...
It's about 7pm, and we're at this very little place with a very little pool, and hardly any people there...that was a good thing, cause most of those people were family...but still, I wanted to get in the pool but felt very discouraged by the size of it, I thought it was for children, plus, seemengly, nobody was interested in it, that's the only reason I went, and did not want to be the only person all night long to get in...
Time keeps passing and little by little the place starts getting full of strage people, weird people, and there was this jukebox with awful songs playing, and since nobody was doing anything, my aunt Maribel asked me and Diego to pick up some songs, so we go and pick about 6 or 7 songs, yes, songs not a "normal" person likes...not 3 songs have played when my aunt just skips through them, WTF???? That was the first interesting thing happening, and we couldn't listen to them all cause it's not "party material", DAMN!!!! Why ASK US to pick some songs...anyway, half of the fun there was to be had was gone, with no intention to get in the pool, and no music, last thing to do was play some soccer, we brought a ball, and since some of our cousins were there, we asked if they wanted to go to a park and play...but that was out of the question, cause how can we abandon a party right in the middle, we would be rude, right???? How was Fani going to feel when she saw us leave for a little while (who by the way, we saw like 2 times the whole evening)...yup, that just meant we had wasted a night, so naturally we start to annoy little people, haha, we started making fun of everybody we knew, and in no time, everybody was next to a wall out of fear of being thrown to the pool (Diego started to scare people, well, cousins, haha), and one of Adriana's friend saw us and she seemed like she wanted to throw Adriana in the pool, but out of nowhere, Julio comes and throws Adriana's friend to the pool, hahaha, funny as hell, but WTF, why did he do that, and after that it all went to hell, like 10 people got thrown to the pool (including Fani & Monica, and some weird people too), and since nobody had the guts to throw me, we and Luis made an agreement to both get in the pool with our normal clothes on...so we did, haha, btw, wearing pants in a pool...not such a good idea, heavy as hell, can barely move, but yeah, it WAS fun, but Diego didn't get in. So after like an hour of swimming and diving, we got out, and since we didn't care anymore, we did go and play some soccer, haha, it turned out to a fun night after all, and I learned that "My hair + pool = not a very nice image", haha.
The next day the family got together to see the newborn of the family...but yeah, that is just not so much fun for me, cause you can't even talk cuase nobody fully pays attention cause every now and then it's baby time. I mean, it's cool and all, but as I'm sure everybody knows, babies don't do a lot of stuff, so after you're done seeing all the cuteness and hearing the weird noises, there's not much left.
Then a lazy sunday, the Duartes came to my house and we played a little Rock Band, that game is so much fun when a lot of poeple are involved, cause almost everybody knows the songs, so yeah...that was my weekend.

Life at night
Why is it so easy to have your sleep schedule thrown off by a simple week of vacation from work, I mean, at the time it's great and all...but now I'm suffering the consequences.
It's 3am...yeah, a couple of months ago I would've thought "Mmm, in a couple of hours I'll go to bed if I'm sleepy"...right now I SHOULD be "Mmm, why am I awake, in a couple of hours I have to get up to go to work" (Obviously if I'm asleep I can't say that...but yeah, haha), and that's exactly how I am right now, in a couple of hours I would have to be waking up, but since I got so used to sleeping later and later everyday in the last week, I'm so not used to going to bed at 10pm...how can that be??? It takes me ages to get used to going to bed early, but I just have a day off or something, and there I go again, awake till the sun comes up...
But I'm an optimistic person...I'm now going to use this time to do something constructive...like...watch some...um...ok, yeah, I want to play videogames, but I can't make any noise and I wouldn't quite enjoy it...plus I really feel like I should do something else...but there aren't a lot of things to do, I can write in my blog, that's one thing...watch a couple of Futurama episodes, and I know at the exact time when I do get sleepy, that's the time when the alarm is going to go off, I just know it.
Could it be that all these past years that I've been living as a night person made my brain see the night as the default for being awake??? Haha, I don't even know what I'm saying anymore, but yeah, I love the night, and if I ever get a chance of sleeping in the mornings and being awake at night I will take it, life at night is better through my eyes, haha.

It's been a Hard Day's Night
Not really, since I'm not working this week, it has been a blast, haha, plus, yesterday was a holiday so there were no classes, so yeah.
I've been playing a whole lot of The Beatles Rock Band, a shitload of it, I get up, I play, I eat, then I play, go to school, come back, play some more, haha, I know probably by this time next week I'm not even going to bother hooking it up (the guitars and the drums), but so far it has been a blast. There are 45 songs, and since it's The Beatles, all are great, there are a lot of songs missing, but it could be worse. The first day with the game was a nightmare...not because of the game, but the anticipation and stuff happening before getting to play it. We knew my aunt Martha was coming to Juarez and Ricky had checked on the net that our packages had arrived so we just needed to wait for my aunt and that was it, but since we were going to be connecting 2 guitars, the drums and a microphone to the PS3, we needed a USB hub, so we went to Walmart (in Juarez) to buy one, and when we got back home my aunt had already stopped by the house and brought everything...or so we thought, the drums and a guitar were missing, sure we could play, but only two at a time, and the 3 of us wanted to play...so we decided to go to EP to pick up the stuff, it was 4pm and Diego gets off work at 5, so we thought by 6 we would be back and play. We get in the car, and it's raining like hell, and Juarez is not a pretty sight when it's raining, entire lakes form in the streets, no kidding, but we didn't care, we were on our way, no point in going back. The line at the bridge was loooooong, but we didn't mind, we were listening to some Beatles songs to get in "Beatles mode", hahaha. All was going well...right before the middle of the bridge...my stupid car didn't want to go on, I had no idea what was happening, it was trembling all weird and the stereo kept on turning off...and there I realized the...um, alternador (don't know what it's called in english), wasn't working, so we had to turn off the stereo, the headlights, and since we were almost not moving, had to keep stepping on the gas to have current going to the battery...anyway, after like half an hour of fear of my car dying we made it, when we entered the freeway, it didn't matter anymore. We got home at like 7pm, and didn't care about anything else, we just put the game, hooked everything up, and started playing. "Twist and Shout" was the first song we played...and it wasn't pretty, the audio and video were all out of synch and couldn't play the notes at all, plus, one of the drum thingies didn't work, WHY?????? We were mad as hell!!! I could see it in my head: Returning the drum, getting the credit, buying a new one, wait for it to arrive, at least 2 weeks...so we decided to give it a little "inspection" and opened it a little, haha (we knew that would void the warranty), and when we didn't see what was wrong, we just closed it and started working hahaha, and after some minor tweaking in the options got it all synced and at 8:30pm played "Boys"...no more shit, just good times ahead. And sure enough, by 11:30pm we had finished the whole game, all 45 songs, haha, we had a great time.
The great thing about this game is that anybody knows at least a song and can play it, like this video of me playing and my mom singing:
And I've been obsessing about playing and singing songs at the same time, both on expert, I'm not great but I'm getting there, this is of my first time playing and singing that song both on expert, so it's not so bad:

The Beatles Rock Band, so close and yet so far away
Tomorrow at around 6pm I will be playing The Beatles Rock Band, can't wait, we've been wanting that game for a long time. Right now is the worst time to be thinking about playing it, I'm not sleepy at all and I have to get up in 5 and a half hours, I will be dozing off at work all shift long and the day will be slooooooooooooow as hell, every 5 minutes I'm going to either start to fall asleep or think about the game, and that's not a good way to make time...plus when I come home from work, we have to go to El Paso to pick it up, it's not bad, but I'm pretty sure there will be a long ass line, don't know why, but when I'm excited everything happens to make it seems farther and farther.
Anyway, hopefully I survive this long wait, cause it will have been worth...unless I die in my sleep or something, haha. And better yet, I have vacation from work, so all next week I'll be here playing and playing and playing some more...I'm that addicted :P, k, I'll post a video of us (Ricky, Diego and me) playing by the weekend.

There's a reason why I don't like quinceañeras
So yeah, last saturday was Adriana's quinceañera. I promised my mom and other people I would go, so I went. I knew I didn't really like them, but I kind of forgot why, after all, all the family's there, it's like a reunion (I like when the family gets together), so I went with a good attitude.
First my mom told me that I had to be at the church at around 5pm...yeah, that didn't happen, she told me as if I had to go, but no, it was optional, so of course I didn't go. And the real thing started at 9pm.
I get there, not a lot of people there, a couple of aunts, couple of cousins, and a shitload of people I didn't know...I don't mind that, after all, it's not MY party. I knew Mari & Bryant would be going, and Ricky was already there, so it couldn't be that bad. At the beginning and till 10 or 1030 it was alright, we were hanging out, drinking soda (I literally drank like 3 liters of coke), and Bryant brought his PSP and I played Rock Band Unplugged (got addicted to it, haha). Then the entrance or whatever it's called began. Adriana (whom I had not seen till that moment) and Pelon dancing a waltz or something, anyway, it was alright...but then I totally remembered why I hated them...the dancing began, I always knew dancing would be a major part in it, but I forgot how even if you don't go there to dance, you can't do shit, you can't talk unless you're like 2 inches away from each other, there'e no food, everybody wants you to dance (mom, aunts, cousins), and your mom always has a cousin or something she wants to introduce you to even though you have no idea who they are or how you're related and they always seem to remember you, haha.
Now I'm not saying that night was a waste, not at all, if anything it was fun, cause when the music began, we got out of there to go eat (Ricky, Mari, Bryant and me), although we didn't find any place, so we ended going back, and we wanted to sneak in some chips Mari had in her car...Mari had Bryant's coat, and put the chips under it, and looked like she was pregnant...but when we got to the table, turns out one of the guards was following us...he didn't buy it, and confiscated the chips, hahaha. And there were no chairs on our table, so we had to stand up for a while. And at the end we got to the parking lot just to eat the chips and be able to talk. Plus I got to play PSP, haha.
But it was ok, to get out of the routine, and something to talk about in the near future, so yeah...
This kept me up till 1 am
So yeah, I get home from school at about 10 pm, I don't like to stay awake past 11 or I'll have a horrible time in the morning waking up, and my mom was making food, so I thought "I'm going to eat while watching an episode from It's Always Sunny and then to bed I go". While the food was ready I started to load the episode and turned on my DS to play while it was loading and thought it would be a good idea to record myself while playing, cause I was about to finish the last stage (the game was Art Style PiCTOBiTS, a puzzle game). I tried and tried and tried and then my mom shouts "Sergio!!!!!!! Ya esta la comida!!!!!!" and decided to make a last try and go grab my food..................... man, was I full of it, that last try lasted till 12:30 (well, like millions of tries), the food was all cold, I had to get up in 4 hours, but I was happy... I beat the freaking level!!!! Here's the video, it's blurry cause I couldn't tell what I was recording cause of my cell phone display... and may seem like a weird game, but what I did is HARD AS HELL!!! Anyway, yeah... :P

Had forgotten about this, haha
Anyway, it's been over a year since my last post, and a lot of stuff has happened... well, not really, and I only really remember stuff that happened no more than a week ago :P
So yeah, this year has been great, cause I finally started playing video games again for real, I never stopped playing, but for the last couple of years I only played like one game at a time for like months and then didn't know anything till the last big game came out.
So this year I've played quite a bit of games. On Wii I started following new releases and got The House of the Dead Overkill, Deadly Creatures, Madworld, Rune Factory Frontier, Punch-Out!!!, The Conduit, and went with older titles like No More Heroes, Wario Land Shake It, Zack & Wiki, Okami & Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn. On PS3... well, I haven't really played a lot of games on PS3...don't know why, there are a lot of great games, the ones I do have are Killzone 2, Metal Gear Solid 4 & Little Big Plannet, all great games, and on DS, well, for starters I bought myself a DSi, I only had DS fat and had been wanting a new one for a while, so I got Fire Emblem, Valkyrie Profile, Final Fantasy Tactics A2, Pokemon Platinum, and well, I don't remember, but what I have been hooked on is DSiWare titles, mostly Art Style ones, just last night I finally finished Art Style PiCTOBiTS, that game is fucking hard, it's a puzzle game, I love puzzle games, I stopped playing that game a while back because of how hard it was but just recently started again. Also lots of WiiWare Games, right now I'm playing NyxQuest, pretty good game, platformer, nice use of pointer.
I also discovered that I really like Guitar Hero and Rock Band games, mostly because I'm pretty good at them, but I don't own any of those games, my first one will be probably in a couple of weeks, Diego (brother), and me are going to buy The Beatles: Rock Band, and it's a great excuse to start listening to The Beatles once again (I know I don't need an excuse, but recently more than before I have an itch to listen to them).
Anyway, there are tons of games I'm looking forward to right now, starting with The Beatles one, next is Muramasa: The Demon Blade for Wii, game looks awesome. Then a couple of DS ones, Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story and Scribblenauts, that last one I've been dying to play since I knew of it's existence, you just write a word and it appears on the game so you can interact with it, like you can write Helicopter or Dinosaur and thousands of words and they appear in the game. Also looking forward to Dead Space Extraction, Uncharted 2, Modern Warfare 2, New Super Mario Bros Wii.
That's it for now, have to play some Mass Effect :) (on PC, don't currently own an Xbox 360, but am planning on getting one)
